If you love your pho (Vietnamese noodle soup), then a restaurant called ‘I Love Pho’ is very unlikely to disappoint. I do not love pho (blasphemous, I know), but I certainly don’t mind the very, very occasional bowl or two. I figured that if there was ever a place that could change my mind, it would be I Love Pho 264. It was placed on my to-visit list a little while ago, and I finally visited the restaurant during one gloomy, rainy night with thehouseofem and susper.
Arriving at the restaurant just after 6.15pm on a Wednesday night, there were still a few tables available. This was not the case by 7pm. I suspect the cold weather played some role, but the restaurant appeared to be vastly popular anyway.

Prawn and BBQ pork rice paper rolls.
I’ve had regular pork in rice paper rolls before, but this was my first encounter with BBQ pork, and the difference that arose from the flavour base change was quite substantial. While the pork masked the prawns, which were much blander in taste, the sweet flavouring of the BBQ pork brought some real oomph to the fresh roll and complemented the sweet dipping sauce perfectly.

Mien ga Hanoi.
I decided to opt for the mien ga, which to me was essentially the sweeter version of pho. The flavour of the soup was quite sweet and enhanced by the chicken flesh. The sliced onion, spring onions and coriander added bursts of biting sharpness to each bite/slurp. I was expecting rice noodles, but was instead pleasantly surprised by the glass noodles, and thought that they paired well with the sweeter flavour of the soup.
