Tuesday 25th October 2011.

Despite a friend living on the same block, her rave reviews AND the ridiculous close proximity (I had to mention it again because it really is THAT close!), it has taken me a long time to try out this place. I tried to come here once with J on a Friday night but as we pressed our noses up against the door, it was clear that we were not going to get a table without a booking. We tried our luck for a 5-seater on a Tuesday night from 8.15pm onwards and were successful.

The place was still quite busy by the time I had arrived (8.40pm).

Seated right next to the kitchen. Again. From previous experiences, it’s not so great for the rumbling tum during the wait…

Complimentary bread and butter.

As I already had a little bit to eat earlier on in the night, I had to refrain from tucking into the bread. Which is sad for me because I love my bread.

Steak with hand cut chips, salad and pepper sauce.

The above dish was thehouseofem’s selection. Chugasm and susper had also ordered steaks but different cuts. No photos were taken of these because they all essentially looked like the above photograph. I was sitting closest to thehouseofem and could hear the satisfaction when she talked about the pepper sauce.

Beer battered fish and hand cut chips.

Pamoola’s meal. No complaints. I tried a chip. So, so delicious!! Possibly better than Grill’D chips…

Station burger with pickles, bacon and gruyere.

So much meat. Too much meat for me. Some gasps and ‘you’re not my friend’ comments were made when I replied to ‘How would you like the meat cooked?’ with ‘Well done please.’ In hindsight, well done was too much. And despite not being a steak enthusiast, I probably should have ordered a steak.

Creme brulee.

There was still a little bit of room to squeeze in some dessert. The burnt caramel tasted very toffee-like and the vanilla was very light, with a fluffy, custard-like texture. A great way to end the meal.

So while I’m yet to be personally convinced that this corner venue does indeed house one of the top ranked steaks in all of Melbourne, the steak-lovers in our group seemed to be very happy with their steaks. Given their passion for steaks, it is probably safe to assume the steaks here are indeed great.
