Friday 7th October 2011.

After several weeks of cajoling from me for some Asian foot, J finally relented. I We decided on some good ol’ asian banquet cuisine at Footscray. There were quite a few things I had been craving for quite some time now so I went ahead and ordered them without any second thoughts.

Peking duck.

At $4.50 a piece, the price was a little bit steep for peking duck. And not the best I’ve had either… The pancake was a little bland and not warm, the peking duck wasn’t very flavoursome and the sauce wasn’t as ‘sweet’ as usual… Still, it served to satisfy my cravings.

Vegetarian dumplings.

J selected this dish and it was surprisingly good. The skin was the perfect combination of subtle flour-iness and stretch. The filling was delicious!!!

Oysters with XO sauce.

Another craving of mine. Very delicious. With quite a spicy kick.

Tofu, stuffed with prawn meat.

I was expecting the tofu to be filled, but the prawn was actually sitting on top of the tofu. This was another dish that I enjoyed immensely. The tofu and prawn was fried to perfection and the sauce flavouring was well suited. The broccoli was standard and was good to help balance out the fried portions of the dish.

Sweet and sour pork.

J’s selection. He seemed quite happy with it. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the dish but that’s nothing against how they prepared it. I’m not a fan of sweet and sour dishes to begin (thinking back to a sweet and sour overdose experience when younger…)

The restaurant was surprisingly quiet for a Friday night. They probably get a lot of their customers on the weekend when all the mummies come out to play/grocery shop haha! I would definitely come back for dumplings, oysters and tofu…
