The best way to kick back after a 8.30am to 5pm day at uni is with a food adventure. The best way to take your mind off an upcoming, nerve-racking event is with a food adventure. With both in mind, I met up with K and we headed to MoVida Next Door.

A snap shot of the bar.

Complimentary bread. That was topped up mid-meal!! By the good looking waiter!

Oysters.

Very fresh! With all these fresh oysters that have been served up at many of the restaurants I’ve visited lately, I have taken quite a liking to them…

Tortilla.

Part of their specials selection. I was expecting bread with some sort of dip. No complaints when this dish came out though because I love my eggs. Although, there wasn’t exactly anything special about it because I could easily whip up an onion omelette at home and it would taste quite similar.

Bomba - chorizo filled Catalan potato bomb with a spicy sauce.

Haha I thought they looked like a pair of wonky eye balls. Anyway, this was indeed a ‘bomb’ in that it was very explosive with flavour. Delicious. The spicy sauce was a great touch!

Fried Croqueta with wild mushrooms.

We both love our mushrooms and thought that any dish with mushrooms would no doubt be aces. We were wrong. The dish exudes mushroom flavour. While good at first, it soon became overwhelming. Coupled with the crumbed outside, this soon became a little sickening. It probably didn’t help that the last dish we ate was also crumbed.

Another specials item: King prawns in a garlic/herby soupy sauce (sorry, I can’t recall the name!)

The prawns tasted quite fresh. The herby soup was quite aromatic and good to dip bread in. But again, nothing amazing about this dish.

It was good to finally see what MoVida was like. We didn’t realise it at the time but we had actually gone to the bar and not the restaurant (located right next door). While most of the dishes were mediocre at best, the potato bombas were awesome. I think I would come back just for them alone. And head next door to the restaurant. Yep, sounds like a plan to me…
